Macro photography always shows the subject from a different angle or a totally new view. Macro photography is often dealt as creative and dramatic photography.
Observing the subject from a closer view is different subject in photography. By moving closer to the subject, you can see different dimensions in the colors and subject which are not visible from the normal eye.
The size of the subject in the normal portrait photographs is half of the actual size in the ratio of 1:2 and in the photographs clicked from a fair distance; the ratio would be 1:4.
But the size of the image clicked in the macro photography will carry a ratio of 1:1, i.e. the photos often reveal the original size. The lens in the camera plays an important role in the magnification process.

Macro photography cameras: To achieve great pictures in macro photography, your camera should have basic focusing system which supports sharp pictures from a distance of 20cm or even more closer.
The latest versions of digital camera which possess these qualities are Coolpix 995, Ricoh i700 etc. These cameras allow you to take amazing photographs from 2cm distance with greater clarity.
Point and shoot digital cameras are optimum cameras for macro photography.
However, for yielding best results in the macro photography pictures many use SLR cameras, as this supports the attachments of different macro lenses with different apertures.
Camera lenses: The main problem in macro photography is when you zoom the object into 1:1 ratio, you lack the sharpness in the subject and frame. This abruption in the picture is known as depth-of-field.
You have several systems to overcome this, the first method is to click the photo and crop later to your adjustments. With this, you get the sharpness but you lack the photo quality.
The most preferable option is to adjust the aperture of the lens and increase the depth of field. Normal lenses which have the aperture of f/8 are not preferred for macro photography. The cameras should carry the lenses with aperture f/16, f/22 and f/32, depending on the object.
- Extension tube: This is used between the camera and lens and the purpose to install a tube between the camera and lens is to move apart the lens from the film or digital sensor. As the distance between the lens and sensor increases, the magnification increases. Extension tubes of various lengths are staked together to increase the magnification levels in the camera.
- An auxiliary close up lens in front of the camera lens acts as a diopters which decrease the minimum focusing distance and allows the view finder in the camera to have closer look.
- Tripods make the camera to stand rock solid for getting photos which are clear and shake proof.
- The major problem faced by many macro photographers is lighting. An arrangement of adding mirrors around the subject improves the lighting between the object and the camera lens.
- Use of external flashes also helps to overcome the lighting needs. Popular external flashes for macro photography is ring flash and hand flash.
Care for taking macro: While shooting close-up shots, you will face problems with the shadows. Ring flash softens or even prevents the shadows to form around the object.
If you are using a hand flash, the shadows are clearly seen. To soften the shadows, add a white card before the flash or another arrangement is to add a silver reflector in front of the lens.
