Tips On Using Circles To Enhance Your Photographs

Circles as a background features in your photographs add that interesting aspect to them. Transform boring and plain photos by using this technique.

It’s simple really, when you want to use this technique and you can have fun while at it.

There is nothing as amazing as a simple technique that will transform your photo into something worth looking at.

Sto-Fen box

One method is to make use of a sto-fen box.  Place the sto-fen box on the flash so that a bubble of light is spread to all directions. How to go about using this method is relatively simple. You can get a yoghurt cap to use as your sto-fen.

The trick is to get the camera flash to be very close to the photo backdrop and that the circle is created because the light will fade off from the flash to the edges.  Otherwise you will not have the desired effect. You will love what you see when you use this technique.

Gridspot

Another option is the use of a gridspot. The whole idea is to limit the amount of light that emits from the flash and create a taut beam of light instead. When this light hits the backdrop a circle is created.

It’s quite simple and straightforward especially if you are a beginner.  How to go about setting this up is also not too much of a hassle. All you need is to place a backdrop behind your subject.

Make sure that this backdrop is of one color, for example, large muslin will be fine.

The next thing you have to do is, gel up your flash, but note that the background will be colored in the same color as the gel that you use. So if you are looking for a specific color then take care in choosing your gel. The gridspot should now be placed on the flash and then you can start shooting your subject.

To create a more desired outcome, you can control the size of the circle when using this method. The closer the flash is to the backdrop, the smaller the circle but then the further the flash is away from the backdrop, the bigger the circle that is created. You can also get a tighter circle when you use a longer gridspot.

The techniques are relatively easy considering the effect that they produce on all the photos you are going to shoot using this technique.
