Location: Location plays a major role in taking the group photo. Right location which is suitable to take the group photo will give better results where as the wrong location doesn’t. After selecting the location, think on whether the group fits on that location or not.

Mostly your choice of selecting group photo for a group must be dependent on the theme they like to have. Depending upon their ideas and views, you have to select the right theme suitable for them.

Take care to not attain distractions at the background and avoid taking the snap for a group in front of a window where your flash light reflects.

Prefer multiple shots instead of single shot: This statement says that instead of taking the single shot go for multiple shots. Better, good or satisfactory results will not be obtained with a single shot, where as in the multiple shots, certainly you will get the better picture in one or the other shot with all correct features.

Group Photos

Get close: Don’t take the group photo from long distance. Clarity levels decrease and other disturbances attain in the snap by taking the group photo in long distance.

So, get enough closer (not too much) to the group while taking the snap. By doing this, you can cover all the persons and their face feelings clearly.

Pose the group: Almost in all cases, group itself poses pretty naturally i.e. tall people will go back, short people comes in front, etc. Other than these settings, you must consider some other features like:

  • If an event is centered on 1 or 2 people like birthday or wedding, make them as the central focal point by making them to stand certainly at the middle of the group.
  • Tell the people to raise their chins a little bit so that they don’t obtain double chins in the photograph.
  • Don’t make the people to form as a deep group. Try to keep a little bit of distance between the front line and the back line of people.

Timing your shoot well: Pick the right moment to take the shot. Try to express something with your snap so that it looks more natural than the ordinary snap i.e. making the people to stand straight while clicking.

Consider light source: Before taking the snap, know which type of light source is available over there and also check whether it is suitable for taking the snap or not.

Good light source helps to attain better pictures with good clarity levels where as the dim or bad light source will not be helpful to attain the good shots.
