Different techniques to get inspirational ideas:
Review a newspaper or magazine: If you want to be intellectual, get ideas by reading newspapers. Many amateur photographers keep a set of old news paper pictures as a library. They review old ideas in photography with a new dimension. The cover pages of a magazine give enough ideas and the mix and match of the different ideas will yield a new idea. Overview at the eye-catching magazines rack will end up with a bundle of creative ideas.
Get ideas while traveling: If you are a travel bug, you have a scope to find new ideas in your trip. Visit a small rural town near to your place and find the local culture for creative ideas. This may seem routine, but you can get new ideas when you visit rural places and people.
Go Shopping: If you visit a small market near to your place, you can see the arrangement of colors in different patterns. You can see how shopkeepers try to attract the people with their attractive arrangements. How they use different shapes and objects to form different compositions. Farmers use different color patterns and products to attract the consumers. These combination works on any creative person for getting ideas.
Watch a movie: You get new ideas when watching a movie. The cinematography often gives ideas. The movements in the film or the angle in the film taking gives interesting ideas. Watch old art movies which are made with dull mat finish frames. This view can give a new antique idea in your mind.

Change the regular view: Many people shoot their own regular style by trying variations in the same technique. But, you try something fresh and new, and change the angle while taking photographs. Try different settings in your camera: Play with camera settings for different photo patterns. Take photographs in different patterns, modes and settings.
