The winter time may drag on for many people, but it gives a lot of photographers a good opportunity to take some great holiday shots for things such as Christmas, Hanukkah, and March Break. When it comes to Christmas there are many subjects that can be used in photographs to symbolize the season. These can be the Christmas lights, trees, food displays, gifts and snowmen as well as family pets dressed out in holiday garb, etc.
You can always look for interesting viewpoints and camera angles. It’s a good idea to place the subject a little off-center and then move in tighter and just focus on the image’s essentials, leaving out any distracting extras.
Always keep your camera ready, especially around children as you can get some wonderful photos when they open their gifts and play with them for the first time. It’s a great chance to capture some amazing expressions on their faces.
Don’t forget you can also use your flash for outdoor photos as well as indoor and night shots. This is known as fill flash and the technique will fill in the shadows as well as even out things such as harsh contrasts.
The holiday season is a time for fun and celebrating; so make sure you show that in your photography.
