Prismatic effect

Along with the evolution of technology, a lot of techniques evolved from a simple push of a button to elaborate methods of taking a very good shot.

With this evolution a lot of drawbacks of classic photography were minimized but also the usage of digital technology came with minor defects that, with a little creativity, can be transformed in unique details that give something special to a photo.

One of the minor effects that may appear in digital photography is the prismatic effect. This is an interface effect caused by the alignment of a regular pattern (a drawing on a T-shirt or the blinds from a window for example) with the pixels array from the camera’s sensor.

This effect never occurred on film because the distribution of light sensitive grains was randomly distributed in the film emulsion. There are two types of prismatic effects: the Base In prismatic effect and the Base Out prismatic effect.

Base in prismatic effect is produced by convex lens de-centered nasally and by concave lens de-centered temporarily whereas Base out prismatic effect is caused by convex lens de-centered temporarily and by concave lens de-centered nasally.

Prismatic effect usually increases with the power of the lens. Inaccuracies occurring because of prismatic effect can be optimized by changing the position of optical center by using the combination of spherical and sphero-cylindrical lenses.

Use prismatic effect in your advantage

How can this be transformed in advantage? Well the prismatic effect can be seen at medium or high zoom levels and can be avoided by tilting the camera to an acceptable angle or can be amplified to create an interesting effect that will amaze the eye.

A professional photographer can use prismatic effect to its own advantage because prismatic effect is also known to give mirror effect which can be used as a special effect to beautify the picture.

The new EXR models include a touch screen (FinePix Z700EXR) and a pocket megazoom (FinePixF80EXR) model. The Z700EXR has a touch screen and is great for online sharing. The F80EXR has a 10x optimical zoom and is only 1” thick.

FinePix HS10 has the most powerful zoom tool: the 30x optical zoom. This is a fixed lens (10 megapixel) camera and has a back lit CMOS sensor for good shots in low lights.

The shots taken from this camera can be easily developed to sizes as large as 13” x 19”, provided they have been shot at a low ISO setting. The camera is not recommended for continuous shooting due to its slow speed. It is an average performance camera, quite good for its price range. Its durability makes it a good family camera as the kids can easily be trusted with it.

Overall it is a decent camera if you want a reasonably tough camera which gives you decent pictures of average print size. It is a stylish and solid digital camera well suited for those with an adventurous bone or two.

Also while handling it, being a relatively lightweight DSLR (it weights 28.9 oz) it does not create discomfort in any way, and feels solid which can withstand few bumps and shocks.

The functions of the camera are user friendly and easily manageable because of the smart and appropriate placement of the buttons and their reduced sizes but you need to familiarize once with the manuals. No one complains about neither the picture’s and display’s quality nor of the viewfinder as the camera is blessed with 14.3x manual zoom which has a focal range of 30.5-436mm.

Overall, the S200EXR provides a very good picture quality and seems to be in the first place regarding the ISO performance, as performance and quality come with a cost, the price of S200EXR can be considered a minus in the long list of pros along with its LCD screen which can’t handle sunlight directly which lead to the usage of eyepiece much more than required. Also to our great surprise, the camera doesn’t support HD video and the power off mode is not up to the expectations of users.

Although S200EXR is considered to be a heavy phone but its features gives you the feel and comfort of a digital camera.
